Post Grad
So you hear your name called, walk across the stage, celebrate with your family and friends, and then….. what?
The moment after the parties are over, your family has left, and the excitement has settled is one of the most sobering moments in one’s life, at least it was in mine. I kept waiting for this one big moment that would live up to all the rising action, but it never came. Sure graduating...

The Real Achievement Gap
Watch The Throne was easily one of my favorite albums of 2011, I still listen to it regularly. One of the most thought provoking songs on the album is Murder to Excellence. One of my favorite lines in it is when Jay says, “Domino, domino, only spot a few black the higher I go. What up to Will, shout out to O, that ain’t enough we gonna need a million more.”
As usual, he brings up a very...

Words of Wisdom: Paula Madison
I was recently at a NABJ gala where the keynote speaker was, one of my favorite journalists, Paula Madison. You may have read about Madison in more than a few magazines. Madison is probably most known for her past position as Diversity Officer for NBC Universal. She is currently CEO of Madison Media Management and she and her family own the Africa Channel and part of the LA Sparks.
I first met...

Top Relationship Issues
No relationship is perfect. Anyone who has been in one can tell you that. Good, long lasting relationships take work. That is something I believe many people today have forgotten with divorce suits being filed left and right. Every relationship has its specific challenge, but there are a few common ones that a lot of couples go through. I went around polling different couples to find out what...

Movie Review: Red Tails
“Red Tails” is an extraordinary tale of courage, bravery, and strength that is inspired by the equally extraordinary story of the Tuskegee Airmen.
During United States’ involvement in World War II the Tuskegee Airmen were formed as the first African-American aerial combat unit. Unlike the 1995 HBO movie “The Tuskegee Airmen”, “Red Tails” is set in 1944...

The infamous "Back Home Boo"
I have a relationship column in my campus newspaper The A&T Register, wanted to share my most recent column with you all on the topic of “Back Home Boo’s”
With holiday breaks quickly approaching I thought I’d take the opportunity to talk about the infamous “back home boo.”
You know that person back home who you never quite had closure with.
They...

Album Review: Take Care
Drake is back raw, uncut, and emotional as ever with his second album “Take Care.”
The 25-year-old rapper clearly knows nothing about the sophomore album curse. The album embodies its title “Take Care” as Drake croons an interesting mix of cocky yet endearing lyrics like only he can.
Its becoming signature for Drake to take listeners through a impressively honest...

What Happened To The Thrill of the Chase?
Recently its become increasingly obvious to me that a lot of guys don’t approach women anymore.
I know that’s a strong statement, so allow me to explain. I mean that fellas are playing it safe. They’re asking other friends to “put them down with [insert name here]” or talking to women under the safety blanket of social networks rather than being bold enough to...

A little inspiration for my YBF ladies.
The October issue of ESSENCE Magazine is muy inspirational! I encourage every single one of my fellow Young, Black, & Fancy ladies to pick it up! As if seeing our First Lady glowing on the cover as she embraces the fact that she is one of US at the end of the day isn’t enough… the issue is chock full of advice, stories, and inspiration to help the young black women of the world...

Remembering 9/11 on this 10 year anniversary of such a horrible moment in our history. This video is a look back on how September 11 unfolded in the news. My heart still breaks for what my country went through on that day. For all the lives lost. Never forget.

Summer Memoirs: Summer Lovin'
What is it about summer that causes sparks to fly? It’s ironic because in one sense summer is seen as the season where people live up being single to the fullest. A many of spring break-ups are blamed on summer being around the corner. People claim they like to be un-attached over the summer because it allows them to have fun with no consequences. They can dance the night away at a club...

Beyonce is PREGNANT!!!
I can barely contain my excitement as I type this blog post! Tonight at the MTV VMA’s Beyonce made two very BIG announcements that she was pregnant BOTH done w/o saying a word! While on the red carpet she struck the traditional “pregnant” pose that sent the blogasphere and social networks ablaze as everyone wondered if the moment we’ve all been waiting for since Bonnie...

A Piece of Me: For A Minute
Keep in mind that I’m an artist… you know the rest lol. And as always, leave room for some creative license, this is my poetry not my diary. Enjoy.
Can I have a moment of your time?
Should I allow you to enter my mind?
Let’s pretend for a minute that all our greatest fears didn’t exist
Let’s escape into a beautiful bliss
Let’s forget all the reasons why we...

Beauty Find: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer
This eyeshadow primer has changed my LIFE! A little extreme? Perhaps, but regardless that’s how I feel about Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion.
I’m an eyeshadow junkie. It’s my favorite kind of make-up to put on. I tend to use powder eyeshadows b/c I just prefer powder to liquid make-up. However it was rare that my eyeshadow would last 24 hours without fading. Now...

Summer Memoirs: The Road Trip Guide
What is summer without one good adventure? In my post, “Summer Memoirs: Dear Summer, We Meet Again” I talk about certain things that I feel must be done during the summer. A road trip or adventure of some kind is a staple on that list. Last summer I made Europe my playground. This summer I decided to keep things domestic. I happened to be interning in the mid-west so the destination...

Summer Memoirs: Hair Care!
As women of color, we all know how complicated our hair can be, especially during the summer! All the direct sunlight, humidity, and lets not even talk about the damage swimming can bring. All of that being said, I thought it would be a good idea to blog on summer hair care and share some personal tips on ways to take care of your hair during this beautiful season! Now I’m no hair guru, but...

Album Review: 4
Beyonce dropped her new album “4” on Tuesday, and despite being leaked a couple weeks earlier, it still reached #1 on ITunes before the end of the day AND has projected to have reached #1 in over 14 countries!
I don’t know about you all, but I was in desperate need of another Beyonce album and she did not disappoint! From the moment I heard “Run the World (Girls)”...

Some of you may have seen it on my Facebook page, but I wanted to share it with… I guess the world lol since all of my blog viewers are not my Facebook page. Enjoy : )

Summer Memoirs: Dear summer, we meet again :)
It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for! Summer has finally arrived!
I’ll admit, for a long time I never really understood the hype around summer. I mean I’m a winter baby (Aquarius’ stand up!) and yea I’ll admit it I liked school! However, the older I became, the more I began to appreciate this season that warms not only our bodies, but our spirits, minds...

A Piece of Me: DNA
I recently told a friend & fellow blogger that the best way to blog is to write from your heart. My poems are just that, pieces of my heart. So I’ll start sharing them periodically.. so here’s the first one, it’s called DNA.
There’s this feeling I’ve never been able to escape It’s the reason I get out of bed in the morning What gets me through the day It makes...

Rachel Zoe Gives Birth to a Baby Boy!
Its confirmed! Rachel Zoe gave birth to her first child this week! She and her devoted husband Rodger welcomed a baby boy into the world! I love his name too – Skyler! I’ll admit, I was hoping she’d have a little fashionista to carry on her legacy and take advantage of her amazing wardrobe, but alas. I’m just glad she finally gave in and had a baby at all, Rodger wanted one so...

Make your lashes POP!
insidethetags:
You see how her eyelashes pop?? Get this look with colored mascara. Instead of getting the normal and boring black mascara, get a colored brush! It is a definite unexpected touch when going out. I’ve done it, and gotten so many compliments. To make the selected color pop add a color eye-liner as well.

Album Review: Late Nights, Early Mornings
Marsha Ambrosius’ solo debut album Late Nights, Early Mornings, picks up right where Floetry left off. Ambrosius is the first of the duo to drop a solo album. I have been waiting for this album ever since the duo Floetry broke up! Ambrosius voice is sick, I could listen to it all day and night, so I stayed up late just so I could download her album on ITunes when the clock hit midnight...
